La Faena is an old cantina in Mexico City's historic center. Opened in the 1960s, it is best known for its ties to bullfighting culture. Alongside its collection of vintage posters, paintings, and matador memorabilia, a sequence of ceramic tiles welcomes everyone who passes through its doors. Pairing cartoon characters with off-color jokes, to colloquial sayings and philosophical quotes, the tiles reflect a playful side of Mexican popular culture. This book documents those tiles from that colorful world.
